A second generation American of Chinese Cuban heritage, Wong draws upon her family’s migratory history, melding it with the Buddhist concept of interdependent origination, which holds that reality is not objective in nature, but rather a co-creative act. Through her work she comes to terms with ambiguous experiences and creates a space of merging and emerging, one filled with potential.
For the past four years, she has been working on the Fingerprint Project. Wong collects molds of her friends’ and family members’ fingerprints. She then casts them in wax and mounts them on a simple blue field directly on the wall, mimicking migratory patterns, such as those of birds flocking, insects swarming, or animals moving in herds.
Wong investigates experiences that are difficult to articulate with language, such as the creation of art, and holds both an MFA degree and a Master of Theological Studies in Buddhism.
